The Member of Parliament for Padyere county in Nebbi district has blasted the district councillors for turning up for council meeting in rag-tag clothes.

Joshua Anywarach made the attack recently during an extraordinary council meeting convened to approve the district workplan and budget for the 2013/2014 financial year.

“You must stop this business of coming for council meetings dressed casually. I don’t remember any single day I appeared in Parliament shabbily dressed,” he said.

Anywarach also asked the councillors to prioritise rehabilitation and maintenance of district roads, saying that most of the roads in the area have become impassable.

The district speaker Ida Faumbe, concurred with Anywarach and appealed to the councillors to dress appropriately whenever they go for meetings.

She, however, attributed the practice to failure by the council to apply rules of procedure governing the councillors’ dress code.

“We previously had one councillor who was keen at observing the dress code for the councillors but now that he is no longer in this council, members dress the way they like,” Faumbe said.

Anywarach served as Nebbi district youth councillor before being elected Member of Parliament in 2011.
