MINISTER of internal affairs Gen. Aronda Nyakirima has lashed out at social media users for posting messages that portray the country as heading for chaos.

"When you read what is on social media you may think that we are about to descend to some kind of genocide," Gen. Aronda said.

He explained that people who are involved in politicking on social media or other platforms should politick according to the electoral law and public management law.

"Like in 2011, when we turned up in our numbers to vote and went home without any case, we intend to do the same in 2016 even in better way," Aronda assured the nation.

He made these remarks on Sunday in Soroti town while presiding over the lunch of the ID registration for Teso sub-region.

"Ugandans should not worry about anything because you will remain in classrooms teaching your children, you will remain in your gardens and moving around peacefully and we intend to keep it peaceful," Aronda said.

When asked about the arrest of former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi last week Aronda said that Mbabazi was arrested for defying his party laws and the laws of the country.

"His activities are guided by the law, guided by the party of NRM so Mbabazi matters are with the party and with the law. Where he clashes with party and the laws then they call him to order," Aronda explained.

Gen. Aronda called upon religious leaders to pray for peace as security concentrates on its work while political leaders ensure that the country remains united and harmonious.

He explained that the IDs shall facilitate free movement of people within East Africa without asking for passports.

Emorimor of Teso Augustine Osuban hailed government for introducing IDs to the people and urged them to avoid moving with them to drinking joints in fear of losing them.

"Carry it whenever you are going out of your area but don’t carry it to drinking joints where you can easily lose it," Osuban said in a message delivered by his minister for environment Stephen Enokokin.

Teso affairs minister Christine Amongin Aporu urged people to pick the cards within 30 days starting on the 13th of July.

She said the IDs shall go a long way in protecting the country from acts of terrorism perpetuated by the Somalia based Al-Shabaab militias.
