Buganda caucus bosses lock horns

Buganda Parliamentary caucus chairman, Godfrey Kiwanda and his deputy Betty Nambooze have clashed over the memorandum of understanding recently signed between the Government and Buganda Kingdom.

Addressing journalists at Parliament, Kiwanda said the caucus was to move a motion to thank President Yoweri Museveni for the return of Buganda properties and paying sh2b out of sh20b in rental arrears.

Kiwanda on behalf of the caucus condemned the behaviors of some of the youth who booed the President at Celebrations to mark Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s 20th coronation anniversary.

“We want to thank the President for accepting to return the Buganda Kingdom properties and accepting to attend the coronation ceremony early this month. I want to apologize to him for the misbehavior of some of the youth during his speech,” he said.

Just as in the Memorandum of Understanstanding signed between Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and the President, Kiwanda called on the Baganda and the Banyala to respect each other.

As he he was still addressing journalists, Nambooze passed by shouting on the top of her voice wondering why Kiwanda was addressing journalists alone.

After the press conference, Namboze also addressed Journalists condemning Kiwanda’s action. “How can he talk about the MOU when we don’t have the documents ourselves? Whatever he said, should be attributed to him as an MP but not the caucus because he never consulted us,” he said.

She said the caucus cannot apologize for the misbehaviors at the function because they were not the organizers.
