KAMPALA - A new era started in Uganda on Thursday night as Multichoice Uganda unveiled the DStv Mobile and GOtv mobile at Kabira Country Club in Bukoto, Kampala.

The company’s subscribers will be able to access local TVs and DStv channels on their smartphones, laptops and tablets using portable mobile TV devices like the Walka 7, Drifta and iDrifta.

Minister of Information and Communications Technology Hon. John Nasasira was on site to unveil the TV services  and welcomed the dawn of a new era to enable the ‘young people enjoy their TV.’

“In this technology age, we cannot afford to be left behind. We thank DStv for mobile TV because the invention is set to change interaction in the way people enjoy their TV. I only urge you [DStv] to make these gadgets affordable to the young people,” the Minister said.

Multichoice Uganda chairman, Steven Musoke, said the inventions came up as a need to meet the consumers’ demands. “Having been in Uganda for the past 16 years, it was time we broke another dawn of a new era and give our consumers what they needed.”

The glamorous night hosted by the gorgeous Sanyu FM’s Crystal Newman, saw guests walk away with four Walka 7 portable TVs.  There was entertainment from Maurice Kirya, Myko Ouma and Iryn Namubiru.

Mobile TV coverage will be available in Kampala for starters.
