The Police have clarified that they initiated investigations into allegations of conspiracy to murder against Geraldine Nassali Kyaligonza, the estranged wife of Maj.Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza, Uganda’s ambassador to Burundi.

Godfrey Musana, the deputy director of criminal intelligence and investigations directorate (CIID), yesterday said the police launched the probe following a tip-off.

“We already had the information from our informant. It is not that Kyaligonza filed a complaint. In any case, his call came in a week after we had received the information and had started our probe,” Musana said.

However, he did not rule out the possibility that the same informants could have later tipped off Kyaligonza thus his call to the police days later.

The media yesterday reported that Kyaligonza had dragged Nassali to the Police over allegations of conspiracy to murder him.

The Police last week arrested and briefly detained Nassali at the CIID headquarters in Kibuli. She was, however, released later the same night after she recorded a statement with the Police.

Nassali, according to sources, was arrested on the same day with Jamilu Lubega, a native doctor in Masaka, under related circumstances.

Kyaligonza and his estranged wife have been embroiled in a bitter property wrangle.
