The embattled former minister in charge of investment Mbabaali Muyanja has vowed that nothing will stop him from contesting for the Bukoto South Constituency seat.


"I appeal to the people of Bukoto South constituency to be calm and nothing will stop me from contesting for the Parliamentary seat," Mbabaali said.

Mbabaali rubbished claims by a one Possiano Matovu who challenged his academic qualifications to contest as a Member of Parliament as baseless.

He said the allegations are meant to scare the people of his constituency.

"I now have papers. I was admitted to Makerere University through mature age entry which is equivalent to O'Level and in addition to that I have a Diploma in Information Technology (IT) from Pentecostal University," Mbabaali said while waving the certificate of Makerere University mature age admission.

He was admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Arts (Social Sciences) on August 14, 2014 but didn't do the course.

He explained that he did an IT course after seeing adverts in newspapers and was motivated more when he saw MPs being trained how to use Ipads.

He said allegations against his academic papers are intended to character assassinate his academic credentials and damage his image.

Mbabaali warned Matovu against tarnishing his name saying he would not hesitate to take legal measures.

The former minister said he was not looking for employment to become a lawmaker but wants to serve his people as a retirement package.

"I am not looking for a job. I am employ a sizeable number of people," he said.

Mbabaali boasted that he was a man of high integrity and honour and has left an impeccable reputation in all the places he has ever worked.

"I feel very bad when someone comes to spoil my name. Do you think President Museveni was wrong to appoint me as minister of investment? He asked.

Mbabaali made the remarks during a press briefing at Kampala Serena Hotel on Thursday.

He said Matovu was peddling lies just to make a quick buck in the upcoming election period.

"I feel sorry for my voters. The allegations are malicious and designed to destroy my reputation," he said.

He urged the people of Lwengo district to rubbish the allegations.

Mbabaali enumerated places he has work before as National Medical stores as the managing director, in charge of Air Cargo Uganda and as vice chairman Umeme probe committee where a report was produced among others.

"I left impeccable an record at NMS where I created checks and balances," he said.

He said he was the one who employed Asuman Kiyingi, the current state minister of works as a legal officer.

He said with such credentials he is capable of serving as a Member of Parliament.
