Former minister Bitamazire new UMI Chancellor

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has appointed Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire, the former minister of Education and Sports, Chancellor of the Uganda Management Institute (UMI).

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has appointed Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire, the former minister of Education and Sports, Chancellor of the Uganda Management Institute (UMI).
Bitamazire, who was appointed on July 24 according to the instrument of appointment, takes over office from Florence Mugasha, also the former head of Public service.
Harriet Adakun, the University's Public Relations Officer confirmed Bitamazire's appointment as the University's chancellor.
"Bitamazire was appointed in July and the University received the instrument of appointment from the president," Adakun said.
She added, "Following Bitamazire's previous performance in the education ministry, her appointment was in order. She will not find the position new or strange because she has worked in the education sector for long and her performance is exceptional."
Adakun said that Mugasha's term of service ended in June.
The appointment of Bitamazire was in accordance with the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 and on the advice of the Council of UMI.
Bitamazire also served as Mpigi District woman MP before she was defeated by Mariam Nalubega, the current woman MP for Butamabala following the split of the district into two.

She is the over role governing person of the institute
She participates in planning for the university's future
She presides over all official functions
She is the technical advisor
