Are you getting enough? You’ll soon be able to track how active your sex life is using your iPhone thanks to a forthcoming update.

Apple's iOS 9 will let people track when, and how often they have sex, as well as letting women log their menstrual cycle, The Daily Mail has reported.

The company has previously come under fire for ignoring the importance of female customers and this will be redressed when the revamped HealthKit rolls out in autumn.

The update according to the UK news paper was announced by Apple’s Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) conference yesterday.

He said users will be able to track how much water they drink, UV exposure and how long they sit still for, as well as their reproductive health -  but didn’t provide any further details.

However, it appears users will be able to enter details such as the time they had sex as well as whether they used protection, The Independent reported, having seen early builds of the software sent out to developers.
This information is displayed as a graph or chart depending on preference, and can be shared with other apps.

A slide showing a category in HealthKit for 'menstruation' flashed up briefly on screen during the presentation.

HealthKit was originally launched as a comprehensive health monitoring system a year ago.

While it can track weight, steps, blood sugar levels and even inhaler use, the version currently used by the public doesn’t include the ability for women to track their periods, which has incurred criticisms.

The roll-out will rectify the situation, but may dent the popularity of current reproductive-tracking apps in the App Store, which have proved a hit with millions of people.

iOS 9 is set to be released in autumn and is focused on extending battery life, improving performance and enhancing security.

Developers have already been given access to the software and some members of the public will get a sneak peek via a beta programme next month.

It will include a more intelligent personal assistant, enabling Siri to handle more complex reminders, for example.

The new OS is designed to be more proactive so it can learn to offer music on the lock screen when headphones are inserted at certain times of day if users frequently go for a run, for example, or automatically pull up an audiobook for the car.

Mr Ferderighi said there's an API for search so that 'when a user performs a search, we can find content behind the apps they have on their device, and when they tap they're deep-linked into the app.
