The leader of the opposition in Parliament Nandala Mafabi has invited the public to participate in the budget scrutiny by Parliament.

Members of the public can appear in person or send memorandum between Tuesday and Friday. The hearings will take place at the office of leader of the opposition in Parliament.

The public, private institutions, civil society and diplomats are expected to participate in the process.

Mafabi said the process of putting together budget responses is ongoing.

“It is the desire of the opposition to involve the public in the exercise,” he stated.

The budget process, he explained, does not end with the reading of the budget by the finance minister.

“At that stage it is half done. It needs the public and other stake holders to scrutinise it,” Mafabi said.

He explained that the second stage is consideration of the budget and it is the most critical.
