KCCA Leopards tipped off the InterCities Regional championship in high gear when they beat hosts Dar es Salaam City 76-61 in their first game of the championships on Wednesday.

Peace Proscovia nailed 20 points for the Leopards who are gunning for their first championship in this annual event.

Claire Lamunu and Flavia Oketcho added 16 points apiece for the Uganda champions with left hander Becky Akullo also managing 10 points.

This year's championship for the first time got support from the Fiba Africa Zone Five and will from now onwards be categorised as a zonal event.

The Leopards will be back in action tomorrow against defending champions Nairobi women who have won 12 of the last 16 events and remain favorites once again.
