Lukiah Naigaga a resident of Mbaale village in Imanyiro sub-county, Mayuge district was arrested on Sunday after she reportedly dumped the baby near a home in Ibanga village, Buwaya sub-county.

The district Police commander Caroline Akoth said Naigaga's brother identified as Ziyadi Mayanja with an unidentified woman, both from Bugiri district, visited her (Naigaga) and left the baby in her home.

Akoth said Naigaga got the baby and dumped it in a dilapidated building near another home in Ibanga village.

"She carried the baby in a white stained cloth and dumped it in a dilapidated house in Ibanga and took off but was seen by two men who arrested her and took her to Mbaale Police post," Akoth said.

Naigaga told Police that her brother (Mayanja) went to her home with unidentified woman who asked her to take care of the child because it was born out of incest.

She said the woman told her that she was raped by her father and got pregnant and that the family members never wanted such child produced under a sinful act.

"I dumped the baby because I also never wanted to stay with the child born out of incest," Naigaga said, adding that staying with the child would bring misfortunes in her home.

Akoth said the incest case was reported to Bugiri Police station in Bugiri district.

She warned parents to stop sexual acts with their relatives as it is against African culture and is religiously sinful.
