The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Louis Kasekende, has asked Ugandans to learn the virtue of sacrifice, which will subsequently help them to contribute to the betterment of the less-privileged persons in their immediate communities.

The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Louis Kasekende, has asked Ugandans to learn the virtue of sacrifice, which will subsequently help them to contribute to the betterment of the less-privileged persons in their immediate communities.

“Often times, when we think of public good, we think in terms of government providing public goods. But we should also think of providing public goods as individuals.

“We need to learn the virtue of sacrifice, which is much wider than money. We can contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of our disadvantaged people by offering them our time and skills. For example, if you are a medical doctor, you can offer free medical services to the needy. In this way, you can make our world a better place without feeling burdened.”

Kasekende said this during his recent visit to Mapeera Bakateyamba’s Home, Nalukolongo, in Rubaga division, where he was the chief guest as the Catholic Church celebrated 125 years since the death of Father Simeon Lourdel Mapeera.

A French priest of the Catholic missionary society of White Fathers, Fr. Mapeera died at Nabunnya, in Rubaga, on May 12, 1890.

Mapeera, who was the pioneer Catholic missionary, had arrived in Uganda with his colleague, Brother Delmas Amans, on February 17, 1979.

Kasekende announced a donation of sh10m, from the Central Bank, to Mapeera Bakateyamba’s Home, Nalukolongo, which currently accommodates about 100 disabled, sick and elderly persons.
