Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) vice chairman Douglas Kayondo has kicked off a drive to revive the sport in the country.

UTTA has for the past years also failed to organize local tournaments and according to Kayondo, the underdevelopment was partly due to failure to spot talent at the grassroots and also misunderstandings amongst officials.

"I opted to pull out from the endless wrangles within us (UTTA officials) and decided to revamp the sport," Kayondo explained.

The equipment including balls, rackets and nets approximately about sh4m were donated to MK Academy at Victory City Church hall in Ntinda, Kampala.

"I visited the academy and realized there were a number of young determined players who only lacked equipment to have their skills developed  further and it's the reason I decided to give a hand," he said as he handed over the equipment to MK Academy official Fred Kirabo.

MK Academy is currently running the national badminton league but according to Kirabo the boost might also see his academy launch a table tennis league later on.

"We want to widen the scoop of activities within the academy in order to give chance to kids to choose a sport of their choice and we are proud to pattern with UTTA," Kirabo said.

Other schools that have had a similar boost delivered to them include Mbogo College, Kololo S.S, Kitante primary and Nakasero primary school.
