Kakiri Police in Wakiso district have arrested a man for purportedly beheading his own mother.

The suspect, Dan Kanyamugire, 35, of Wamiika Namayumba sub-county, Wakiso district is alleged to have beheaded Maria Nantale, 75, and hidden the head in his bed.

Nantale's dismembered body was found in her home on Sunday evening where the accused is alleged to have found her preparing tea and spontaneously chopped off her head.

According to assistant CIID boss of Wakiso, Kakiri Rashid Karungi, when Nantale's torso was discovered they searched for her head but in vain. He said a sniffer dog traced the scent to Kanyamugire's bed.

It is understood the accused lived with his mother.

Detectives remove Nantale's body from the crime scene

CIID's Karungi said Kanyamugire's neighbour, identified only as Ssemujju, went to the victim's home on the fateful day and found her torso lying in a pool of blood. He said he told the accused who was at home at the time not to leave and called the Police.

A blood-stained machete (panga) was also recovered from the bush behind the house. Karungi said the accused's clothes also had stains of blood.

But he (Kanyamugire) denied having anything to do with the murder, saying he also stumbled upon his mother's headless body in the compound.

Police dsicovered fetishes and herbs behind the house where Kanyamugire is believed to have had a bath after beheading his mother.

Kanyamugire was charged with murder on file number CRB/471/13.

The incident is just another of many others at a time when gruesome murders wound around mysterious situations have been reported in various parts of the country.
