Youth tipped on job creation, enterprise selection

President Yoweri Museveni has said government is embarking on a comprehensive programme to promote vocational training to ensure skills development and job creation for the youth.

President Yoweri Museveni has said government is embarking on a comprehensive programme to promote vocational training to ensure skills development and job creation for the youth.

He called the youth to exploit employment opportunities in various sectors including industry, services like entertainment particularly performing artists among others, public service, and ICT - outsourcing.

The President was Thursday meeting youth from the Uganda Youth Platform group led by their chairperson Hillary Musoke at State House Entebbe.

Uganda Youth Platform is a voluntary, non-political, non-profit making organization which is free from any sort of discrimination. Its major aim is to mobilize and organize the youth in Uganda in a strong unified platform with positive influences to address youth interests of development.

The President and members of the delegation that comprised UYP coordinators and their representatives countrywide discussed issues pertaining to development.

The President urged the youth to exploit the five existing sectors that are available as regards to employment.

He said that the five sectors include modern commercial agriculture where enterprise selection is very crucial in-order to realize maximum profits.

The President added that a package like fruit growing, poultry, piggery, apiary and dairy cattle keeping can be done by homesteads with small land holdings and can fetch over sh20m annually.

He advised the youth to maintain discipline, embrace education, remain healthy and acquire skills.
