Many Ugandan artists start singing groups but breakup along the way. What has kept Afrigo band together for 40 years? What is the magic?

“Discipline,” Moses Matovu, the band leader says. ‘Discipline is everything else. Plus commitment and interest.”

“We work together as a team. We are a family. We listen to each other, we all see ourselves as equal. This is what can glue any team together. ,” says Matovu, 65.

When they started the group in 1975, it was a leap of faith into the unknown by inexperienced and adventurous youth, who had a lot to learn about the real world. Despite having a big dream and the courage to pursue it, not even the boys who formed the band knew how far it would go on the path of greatness.

Yet today, 40 years later, the band is unrivalled for the honours of Uganda’s most enduring, and influential band in the history of the country’s music industry.

As part of their activities to mark their 40th Anniversary, the band will be holding a mega concert in London on March 28th 2015.

“We are expecting 2,000 people, for their audiences in London, Norway, Sweden, German and turkey,” says, Daniel Luwugge, an official of Grajoh entertainment, the promoters of the event.

“After that, the band plans to also throw a concert for their fans in Uganda. 40 years is a long journey.”
