SEMBABULE - Residents of four villages in Sembabule district are living in fear following a night raid that left at least six people hospitalised.

The affected villages include: Kalububu, Lwembogo, Lukakka and Kijju all in Mateete sub-county.

In the aftermath of the attack which took place on Friday night at around 11:30pm local time, area locals are still in shock.

Robert Walugembe, the District Police Commander, said that the gang raided the villages one after another. He explained that several residents were tied, beaten up and robbed of their valuable household items.

Six victims were hacked for attempting to resist the robbery, for making alarms and for failing to avail the money which the thugs had demanded from them that night, police said.

The victims include: Zulaika Nayiga (Kalububu), Moses Senyondo (Lwembogo) and Jane Namazzi of Lukakka village.

Others are Sarah Nakiwala, Edger Kiweewa and Ssakka Mubiru of Kijju village, all admitted at Kitovu hospital in Masaka where they are being treated.

Walugembe said that the victims sustained deep cuts on head, hands, and other body parts and lost too much blood.

The area police have ramped up security through night patrols in different communities to prevent similar incidents from occuring.

Health workers at Kitovu Hospital said the victims were recuperating.
