JAMILA Lunkuse’s exploits at the CANA zone 3 and 4 swimming championship in Zambia, has won her the Rwenzori USPA Sportsman of the Month award

JAMILA Lunkuse’s exploits at the CANA zone 3 and 4 swimming championship in Zambia, has won her the Rwenzori Uganda Sports Press Association Sportsman of the Month award.

The 16-year old Olympian was voted unanimously by the USPA assembly at their monthly sitting at Lugogo, consequently relegating would be competitors, kick-boxer Ronald Mugula and Woodball player Lilian Zawedde achievements in the same month to mere commendations.

She won 7 gold and one silver to inspire the Ugandan team to a 21 medal haul at the championship.

Lunkuse won gold in the 50m breaststroke, butterfly and free style races. She also picked gold from the 100m breast and freestyle heats on top of the 200m freestyle and Individual Medley events collecting a total of eight medals.

Her competitors to the USPA award Lillian Zawedde, was a bronze medal winner in the singles at the sixth Hong Kong International Woodball open while Ronald Mugula’s feat in the same month was winning the Super Pro Intercontinental crown over Romanian Elek Jonas at Kyadondo.

Lunkuse who competed in the women’s freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, is currently enrolled at Plymouth college in the UK where she is trying to advance her swimming career.
