President Yoweri Museveni has blamed confessed christians for the increasing evils in the country.

The President noted that although 85% Ugandan are Christians and 12% Muslims making 97% of believers in God, he wondered why cases of murder, sexual immorality, human sacrifice, corruption, embezzlement and other vices still exist in the country.

“ I urge  the church to be at the forefront of the struggle against all forms of oppression and marginalization of weak and vulnerable groups as well as all forms of corruption without forgeting  extending a hand of friendship, tolerance and love to all,” the President said.

Museveni’s message was read by the Vice President Edward Ssekandi during thanks giving and new year paryers organized by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at Namboole on Sunday.

Quoting from 2 Chronicles 7: 14 which says, “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land,” Museveni prayed to God to protect and bless Uganda in the new year.

The President said if believers aspired to be God fearing people and faithful stewards living in harmony with each other, respecting the environment and genuinely loved God, the country would be the most peaceful place and full of blessings than it is even today.

Museveni  appreciated men and women who have stood faithful in service of the nation and Government. He commended the Adventist Church for its contribution to the country’s socio-economic development through its good relation with other denominations and the government.

He urged the church to be vigilant and guide the country’s youth and children in the way they should grow as responsible people saying society continues to be infiltrated by errant and abominable behavior that is eroding especially the young generation.

Pastor Kagya appealed to hundreds of Adventists who turned up for the payers to always have faith in God. “Your prayers have not been answered, simply because during day you proclaim God’s name and at night indulge in evil.”

The main preacher Pastor George William Kambugu of Mityana Doicese implored christians to always contemplate of waht Jesus Christ did for them on the Cross when precious blood was shed for their sins.

He called upon christians to die to sin and live a christ-like life as they await His second coming.
