PADER - The officer in charge of Ogom Police Outpost in Pader district has been arrested following the theft of two guns from the station.

Charles Ocakacon Ocakacon faces charges of absconding from duty and negligence of government property.

According to the District Police Commander Ambrose Sabiiti, the two firearms were stolen from the house of the OC station which also serves as an armory of the police station.

He said the incident happened between 6 and 7pm local time.

It is understood that two other suspects, whose names Sabiiti declined to reveal, have been arrested to aid in ongoing investigations.

The theft came days after a warning by the Inspector General of Police General Kale Kyahura to officers to be vigilant and protect government properties under their custody during the festive period.

Also this month, an unknown gang still at large, raided Karubuju Police Station in Masindi district and put one unwitting policeman on gunpoint reportedly using a toy gun. They made off with an AK47 rifle.

In the same district, a similar incident had happened around the same time – this time at an incarceration facility.

A thug stormed Maiha Prison in Bwijanga sub-county and grabbed a magazine containing 30 bullets from a prison warder on guard.

Earlier in the year, the Police had also lost one of its firearms to an attacker. In July, thugs raided Bujenje police post and made off with a gun.
