Thug steals 30 bullets from prison guard

MASINDI - A thug stormed Maiha Prison in Bwijanga sub-county, Masindi district and grabbed a magazine containing 30 bullets from a prison warder on guard.

During the scuffle that ensued as the guard wrestled with the attacker who wanted to grab a gun from him, the magazine dropped off the gun and the thug took off with it.

The guard made an alarm which attracted his fellow staff who immediately fired in the air but the thug disappeared into a nearby bush.

Frank Baine, the Uganda Prisons spokesperson, said they are looking for the thug who is believed to be from the same area.

“Criminals are looking for guns to go and steal during the festive season. This is not unusual because of the period we are in,” he said.

Police Flying Squad and sniffer dogs were later sent to the scene but no arrests have been made yet.
