Kabushenga's Ekitaguriro shatters stage at Qwela Band show

It is not for nothing that the Bakiga are said to be strong chaps. Otherwise, how do you justify all that energy they exude in just about everything they do? Tilling land, walking, or even asking a girl out — they do it with some kind of force.

It is not for nothing that the Bakiga are said to be strong chaps. Otherwise, how do you justify all that energy they exude in just about everything they do? Tilling land, walking, or even asking a girl out — they do it with some kind of force. Which brings us to last Thursday’s dance adventures of Vision Group honcho Robert Kabushenga, who also happens to be a Mukiga.

It all started with Qwela Band, who had a concert at the Kampala Serena’s Victoria Hall, playing a song from the land of the Bakiga.  As if on cue, the Vision Group CEO, along with a number of who-is-who from that side of the country, ran up onto stage and started dancing the legendary and energetic bakiga dance, Ekitaguriro.

No body seemed to match Kabushenga's stamina

In typical kikiga style, Kabushenga pulled o the hardest and most energetic ekitaguriro exploits Kampala hadn’t, up until then experienced. As a result, his heavy thumps perforated the stage, so much that Qwela Band leader Joe Kahirimbanyi asked saxophonist Brian Mugenyi to avoid that part of the stage, lest he fell into Kabushenga’s gaping hole. Now that was kikiga swagger!
