Fairland University licence withdrawn

The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has withdrawn the licence of Fairland University, citing loopholes in its operation system.

In a notice issued in the press Thursday, the council said the university had failed to comply with the standards set for the establishment and operation of a university.

The university, according to the council, conducted unaccredited programmes and made no substantial progress towards the full establishment of the university. Other weaknesses cited included setting up of illegal study centres, presenting of false audited accounts to the council plus the lack of adequate funds, human resource and physical infrastructure for the smooth running of the university.

The NCHE has the mandate to regulate higher education in the country.

“NCHE owes a duty to the public to ensure that high quality institutions are accessible to students wishing to pursue higher education in Uganda,” read the notice.

According to the notice, students were strongly warned against attending Fairland University since its awards are no longer recognised by NCHE with effect from March 12.

However, this revocation does not affect the validity of any academic award granted by the university while still operating under the provisional licence.
