“Being on death row could not stop me from excelling. Court rulings should not discourage man from continuing with life,” says Betty Mbatudde, a death row inmate who was convicted of murder.

With 17 points in last year’s A’level examinations, Mbatudde was the best female candidate at Luzira Inmates Secondary School.

She got 3ACCD in Economics, Divinity, Luganda, Fine Art and General Paper.

“Life in the condemned section is not a bed of roses. You wake up every morning thinking you are going to meet the hangman. I chose never to cry because of the sentence but study,” Mbatudde said.

Saison Kanzira was the second best candidate with 10 points. She got 4CEEO in history, economics, entrepreneurship, divinity and general paper.
