Kaymu Uganda, an internet trading company has teamed up with Kampala City traders Association to train and empower traders to take advantage of the vast opportunities the internet offers.

The project dubbed Kaymu Varsity was launched last week in Kampala at a function where 4500 traders who have started using Kaymu’s website as a marketing and selling platform for their products got to together to share  their experiences, challenges and map a way forward on how to grow their businesses using the internet.

Justin Christianson, the CEO of Kaymu Uganda, while addressing the traders said “ Having opened in the country early this year they have managed to bring 4500 sellers on board to start marketing and selling their products through their site.

He added that the average number of visitors to the site now stands at 20,000 a week with the number of orders placed for products as a result reaching 1000 orders a week now.

But all this is not without challenges as he noted a number of traders have been finding problems using the site when it comes to uploading pictures of their products, updating stock and removing products that have been bought.

As a result the training to be conducted dubbed Kaymu Varsity program will  teach traders basic online skills, show them how to package and position their products well, upload them on the site, follow up on orders and give the customers a good experience so that they can buy more and spread the word.

Kaymu’s CEO Justin Christianson added the firm already operates in 15 other countries in Africa and a total of 30 countries across the world all of which they plan to link and put the products of Ugandan traders on the global market so that customers from as far as Europe and Asia can buy them.

He added that the firm acts as a commission agent taking a percentage from the trader for every product a customer buys through their platform and ensures its agents deliver the products to the consumer on behalf of the seller to avoid any fraud.

Kaymu Uganda is part of the Africa Internet Group (AIG) with investments in over 20 African countries and 3000 staff. Its sister companies include internet real estate trader Lamudi and internet food vendor Hellofood.
