President Yoweri Museveni has stressed that the peace that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Government has established has largely attracted the wealthy investors back into the country.

The entrepreneurial group, he said, has responded very well to the serene and tranquil environment by establishing enterprises that help to generate sufficient revenue the Government uses to provide essential services to the wananchi.

The President made the remarks during the passing-out ceremony for 1,067 cadres, who completed a 12-day political and military training course at Muntuyera Primary School, in Kajara County, Ntungamo district. Jovanis Kasande, 80 and Asuman Kabatereine, 72, were among cadres who successfully completed the training.

Steven Tashobya, the area MP, said the training covered the historical mission and foundation of NRM, leadership, patriotism, implementation of the NRM manifesto and the performance of the economy since 1986.

The President, accompanied by his wife and Minister for Karamoja Affairs Janet Museveni, told the people that the NRM Government has provided electricity to Ntungamo, Rukungiri and Kabale districts as well as the surrounding areas.

He added that the extension of electricity to those areas, has played a big role in contributing to the economic wellbeing of the people of the sub-region.

He noted that the availability of electricity in the sub-region had also enabled other services, such as telephone networks, to take root in the area for the benefit of the wananchi. He cited the sinking of more water boreholes, shallow wells as other projects that had been established to ensure the wananchi lead better lives.

He added that the sub-region in and the country at large, were enjoying Universal Primary Education and Secondary Education programmes.

The President informed the people of his happiness that NRM has created a disciplined army, which he said, is reflected in the consolidation of peace the country is enjoying.

He criticised the opposition, saying they had done nothing for the welfare of the people and that they were backstabbing the NRM whose pro-people track record was clear.

He urged leaders in Ntungamo district to use the existing radio stations in disseminating information to the public on how they can fight and eliminate banana bacterial wilt.

Museveni lamented that whereas the Government had put in place measures and guidelines to help farmers fight the disease, some farmers have not followed the advice, which led to the spread of disease

The resident district commissioner, Peter Rwakifari, informed the President that the council had resolved to arrest farmers who adamantly refused to abide by the guidelines to fight the disease.
