MULAGO, Kampala - Rehema Nakintu, a 43-year-old woman who was reportedly hit on the head several times by her 90-year-old hubby, is lying in severe pain at Mulago Hospital.

Nakintu, a market vendor in Matugga, told New Vision from her hospital bed that the incident took place around midnight on Saturday.

Nakintu got married to Mukasa after the death of his wife. The couple, however, does not have any child.

She said on the fateful day, she came back home and the husband asked her why she had delayed at work.

“My husband asked me why I took so long to come back home. But as I was trying to explain, he requested me to enter the house and as we went, he locked the door, picked a mortar and started hitting me several times on the head,” said Nakintu.

“When he realised that I was over bleeding, he opened the door and took off, thinking he had killed me. He immediately called my elder brother and told him that he should come and pick my dead body from his house,” she added.

Nakintu said she made an alarm and residents came to her rescue. They later rushed her to Mulago for treatment. She says she lost sh140,000, which she had saved from her business.

Her sister, Yudaya Nalubowa, who is taking care of her in hospital, said Mukasa loved Nakintu but was surprised that he had wanted to kill her.

The case has not yet been reported to the Police since Nakintu cannot speak properly.

The hospital’s spokesperson, Enock Kusasira, said doctors were doing everything possible to save the life of the patient.

“Nakintu will get full support from both our surgeons and those coming from the US,” he said.
