Palm Valley Golf and Country Club will for the first time play host to the Independence Day Golf Tournament on Wednesday.

The one-day event marking Uganda’s 52nd Independence anniversary is expected to involve more than 100 golfers and it is sponsored by Crown Beverages under their flagship brand Pepsi.

New golf course

This will be the first major tournament to be held at the new luxurious golf course adjacent to Akright Kakungulu Housing Estate on Entebbe Road.

Sitting on an expanse of 120 acres of land, Palm Valley is an 18-hole championship course, one of the latest in East Africa. So far, nine holes are complete and playable on the course.

Away from Kitante

Since its inauguration, the tournament has been played at the Kitante Par 72 course at the Uganda Golf Club.

Unveiling the sh117m sponsorship package yesterday, Crown Beverages head of sales and marketing Innocent Tibayeita said Pepsi is honoured to host the event at Palm Valley.

“Pepsi is one of the world’s leading brands at the forefront of sports and this sponsorship provides a perfect platform for the brand to invite and inspire fans to Live for Now. It also provides an opportunity for us to interact with our customers in a relaxed environment,” he said.

The sponsorship covers course preparation, publicity, refreshments, prizes and player kits, among others things, Tibayeita said.
