An American lady on Sunday ran 48 kilometers to raise funds for the African Children’s Choir.

The lady, Sarah Lambie from Vancouver, Canada made a non-stop run from Wobulenzi, in Luweero, to the home of the African Children’s Choir in Makerere-Kinoni.

She started the run at 7:00am and arrived at the Bwayise round-about at 11:30am, after which she proceeded to Makerere-Kikoni.

On arrival at Bwayise, Sarah Lambie explained the purpose of the run.

“The purpose of my charity run is to mark 30 years of the African Children’s Choir. I thought that running 30 miles, which is 48kms, would be the best way to mark the organisation’s 30th anniversary and also, to raise awareness of the good work the organization is doing for vulnerable orphans and poverty-stricken children.”

“In the past 30 years, the African Children’s Choir has helped over 52,000 children to access quality education.  My non-stop run from Luweero is therefore also intended to raise awareness of the good work of the African Children’s Choir. I strongly believe that education is key to breaking up the cycle of poverty and I believe in what the African Children’s Choir is doing to achieve this.”

By the close of the day, over Uganda sh45m had been donated to the African Children’s Choir through their online fundraising page, according to Scott Lambie, the choir’s Director of Development.

On the same occasion, the choir launched its year-long 30th anniversary celebrations, which will climax in August, 2015.
