Mulago Paramedical School reopens

Mulago Paramedical School has been re-opened two weeks since the Institution was closed after 200 students went on strike over a chain of grievances.

The Principal of the School Wilson Rwandebo told New Vision the Governing Council of the Institution had allowed the first year students to return to school on Monday.

“Other students, the second years and third years will return when the Council decides their fate,” Rwandebo said. “We have opened the school for only those students who want to study.”

He rubbished the grievances which the students gave for holding the trike, saying “only stupid and non-serious students would base on them to hold a strike.”

 “The students were complaining about bad food, but we serve them posho, beans, meat, rice, an egg, and fruits once a week. Is that a bad diet? Rwandebo asked.  

The students said they were only being fed on non-fried beans and posho and that it was only once this semester on Independence Day that they were given meat.    

The students also complained about shortage of power in their halls of residence, but the Principal said the grievance was beyond his administration’s control.
“The issue of power is controlled by the Ministry and not us. But still we have power in the library, laboratories, classrooms and administration block. Sometimes we use a generator when power is off. So why would a serious student strike over power?”

Rwandebo blamed some of the staff of Mulago Hospital for influencing the students to strike over power.

“Some staff quarters for workers at Mulago Hospital were also cut off by UMEME. So the staff influenced the students to strike such that they would get a chance to be reconnected,” he said.

Mulago Paramedical School is an Institution for students pursuing diplomas and certificates in health course.
