When 12-year-old Night Nambabaali did not return home on time last Tuesday, her auntie, Elivania Nambabaali, believed she had passed by her sister’s shop at Lwaggulwe trading center near Bugere in Masaka District on her way from school.

When it clocked 7.00pm without her showing up, alarm bells went off and Elivania sent a newspaper courier to inform Night’s elder sister, Maria Nakazibwe that the little girl had not returned home since morning.

Night's elder sister on receiving the shocking news

It was on Saturday morning, five days after a fruitless search, that wails of horror tore through Vvuma Village after shocking news of the little girl’s mutilated body was broken by a herdsman who stumbled upon her remains in a shrub, with both ears missing; her private parts cut out and appeared like blood had been sucked out of her.

Patrick Ndeme, one of Night’s teachers at Bugere Primary school in Kyesiiga sub county, Masaka District, said they released the students to go home at 1.00pm as per the school programme, but her assailants could have waylaid her at an isolated spot as it was the last time she was seen alive.

Horrified residents led by the area LCI chairman, Sulaiman Walugembe, called the Police at Kyesiiga, who in turn called the Masaka Central Police station informing them of the murder.

The body was later transported to Kaliisizo Hospital in Rakai as investigations commence.
