Some ten pupils of Namunyole Primary School in Buvuma town Council, Buvuma district have reportedly been possessed by demons while at school.

The bizarre incident happened shortly after the Buvuma Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Apollo Bwebale had visited the school with other security officers to investigate the cause of previous similar attacks.

Teachers and parents of the school have raised plenty of concerns before over the matter.true

The said demons possessed mostly P.7 [seventh grade] girls, and they were always the main victims during the frequent attacks last year, said the school head, John Baptist Ssekitoleko.

“Last year three girls were possessed by demons and the trend went on. First, they used to attack only P.7 girls but now they target girls from any class,” explained Ssekitoleko.

His description of the picture of the moment when a girl is possessed was vivid.

“She emits an eerie whooping moan, shivers hysterically and eventually becomes wobbly, and the weakness sends her crashing hard to the ground.”

Once, the school was temporarily closed and the pupils sent back home when the demon attacks had escalated.

The school only later reopened after the pupils had been prayed for and the parents convened for a meeting.

“We brought Fathers and continued with prayer since the school is church-founded,” the school head remembered.

In the middle of the brief interview, a P.4 pupil – Grace Nanziri – fell to the ground after being reportedly possessed, igniting a stampede of clearly shaken kids out of the classroom.

The officer in charge of Buvuma Prisons who was around ran into the classroom and supported the young girl.

But then this one incident seemed to have inspired more similar attacks.

Our reporter saw more kids fall in the demon attack frenzy, and the scene turned totally chaotic with fellow pupils and teachers carrying the victims under tree shades.

Quick prayers were mumbled over the dazed kids who were stretched out under the trees. Some sprang back to their normal senses as others had to be restrained from running towards the bushes.

The recent incident comes just a few weeks before the P.7 candidates sit their final national exams for that level.true

Ssekitoleko requested the district leaders to come to the school’s rescue as a mood of uncertainty over the kids’ future continues to envelop the school’s atmosphere.

The school shares a Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) centre with another school.

RDC Bwebale offered a gospel music CD to the school that should be played “whenever the pupils are possessed by demons so that the spiritual music scares them off.”

He advised the school to continue with prayers daily to keep the demons away.

With the kind of tension that the incident has caused in the past, the district police has always stepped in to help.
