The 2nd Youth Olympic Games have gone down in history as the first Olympic games to have a 8x100 metre race.
Ugandan athletes Janat Chemusto and Geoffrey Balimumiti were part of the 536 track and field athletes that competed in the relay that closed the athletics session on Tuesday evening at the Yanshan Road Athletics Venue near the village.
A group of eight athletes from the track and in the field were randomly selected into eight heats with each heat having 64 competitors of which those who ran the finals had the best times.
Balimumiti had a good 100m run in team 15 but his group could not advance as they finished sixth. The team had five women and four men with one steeplechaser, one from the field events, and the rest from tha track including a hudler.
"It was a nice experience for the athletes as we have never done this before, getting a Javelin man or woman, a hammer thrower on to the track to compete with a sprinter, this is great for we make more friends out of this. Bringing eight people into one team without a coach and from the different fields is good," said Myles Marshal the American middle distance Runner.
To Balimumiti it was good to have them compete against each other though their team didnt make it to the final.
