PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has said he is not bothered by the stories written about him in the local tabloids.

Museveni has also asked the Kampala Catholic archbishop, Dr. Cyprian Lwanga, not to be bothered by reports in local tabloids linking him (Lwanga) to politics in the NRM.

The President was responding to Lwanga’s remarks in which he said reports that featured in a local tabloid on Thursday claiming that Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi was involved in ‘secret talks’ with bishops were false.

“We are not interested in political power,” Lwanga said at the launch of the fundraising drive for the redevelopment of Namugongo and Munyonyo catholic martyrs’ shrines at Serena Hotel in Kampala.

Lwanga noted that such false reports were detrimental to the political health of the country.

“Our meetings are utterly misreported,” he added.

Mbabazi is the chairperson of the National Steering Committee for the redevelopment of the catholic martyrs’ shrines which is being spearheaded by government.

By virtue of his position, the Prime Minister has held a number of meetings with catholic clerics and other individuals who are members on the steering committee.

In response, the President said tabloids have published many sensational stories about his life, but he is not bothered.

“The archbishop has talked about stories they have been writing about him and everybody. The other day they said I was dying, they said I was sick and it was a big headline but I was not worried,” Museveni said.

He added, “Don’t worry about such things. Jesus was maligned and hanged but he is our saviour today. If they told lies about Jesus, who am I not to be falsely accused? I don’t even read those papers…I regard it as entertainment.”

Over sh1.5b was realized in cash and pledges during the fundraising ceremony. Museveni contributed sh400m.
