The Democratic Party (DP) is contemplating petitioning court over the appointment Richard Todwong as minister without Portfolio in charge of political mobilization.

According to the party general secretary Mathiaus Nsubuga, it is illegal under the multiparty dispensation for the President to appoint a minister in charge of political mobilization.

“Is he (Todwong) going to mobilize for all political parties in the country or for the government? We cannot allow anyone to use tax payers’ money to mobilise for a single party,” Nsubuga asserted.

He argued that the appointment detriments other political parties who cannot access the government funds to carry out political mobilization.

“Our concern is that we don’t know how that office will help other parties that are not in power to mobilise their grass root support,” he said.

Todwong was recently appointed minister with portfolio in charge of political mobilization during a recent cabinet reshuffle.

“Political mobilization for any party should be done by the secretariat but not appointing a minister who will draw allowances from government coffers to execute the ruling party work,” Nsubuga advised.

He said the President should come out with a position over the matter or else DP will seek legal redress.

DP has also recommended that the size of the cabinet be trimmed.
