Traders operating in the New Taxi Park have closed their shops and kiosks protesting Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) directive to vacate to pave way for the renovation of the facility.

KCCA ordered the traders to relocate by September 1 to enable the renovation works commence but traders this morning were up in arms arguing that they will not vacate.

“Where do they want us to go? They want us to vacate after paying license fees to them. We shall not go,” an irate trader said.

The traders have instead asked KCCA to renovate the Park in phases to crate room for them to transact business as the renovation work goes on. KCCA officials are yet to respond to the traders’ concerns.
