SEMBABULE - Over 2000 policemen have been deployed in Sembabule district to reinforce security ahead of tomorrow's (Wednesday) fete to commemorate Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi's of Buganda 21 coronation anniversary.
The Southern Regional Police Commander, Maxwel Ogwal said that a total of 40 police patrol vehicles are already in Sembabule.
“We have deployed heavily to ensure that the Kabaka and his people are safe; we have the Police, UPDF and other sister security agencies already on ground to prevent any form of terrorism and insecurity,” he said.
Ogwal stressed that boda boda operators should not interfere with the Kabaka convoy at any stage.
“We strongly warn boda boda not to join the Kabaka convoy for security reasons. Those who will dare shall be dealt with,” he said. He said at least 4000 guests are expected for the occasion.
The Kabaka and his entorurage are expected in neighbouring Masaka district Tuesday evening before heading to off to Mawogola and Lwemiyaga in Sembabule
The Sembabule district council chairman, Dr Elly Muhumuza told The New Vision that residents have already mobilised over 40 cows among other gifts for the Kabaka.
Dr Muhumuza said Buganda Kingdom properties including the district headquarters structures and sub-county buildings have been rehabilitated. He said all the entry roads to the district have been cleaned and rehabilitated.
He said two free medical camps have been set to treat people in Ssembabule district for two days.
The Lwemiyaga MP, Theodore Ssekikubo said the residents of Ntusi and Lwemiyaga are eager to see Kabaka Ronald Mutebi because of the history of the popular hunting game that his late father, Kabaka Edward Mutesa, left at his favourite hunting site at Ndaiga in Ntusi.
“The Kabaka would camp here at Ndaiga to hunt some times for five days; the residents are proud of this place because the Kabaka liked it. We are happy that Kabaka Mutebi will come to associate with us,” he said.
He said plans to revive the Kabaka's palace in Lwemiyaga which was burnt and destroyed by the Obote troops in 1966 are in final stages.
Kabaka Mutesa fled to Mawogola in 1966 on his way to exile when he was dethroned by the then Obote regime.
