Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and Churches plan to set up a transformational leadership institute and a sports academy.

This is contained in a 14-year strategic plan of Bunyoro Transformation Initiative (BTI), a development platform of the Kingdom, Anglican, Catholic and Pentecostal churches in Bunyoro.

The plan, that will require over sh103b to implement, will also see the Kingdom and Churches undertake other projects such as establishing a university, construction of valley dams and cattle dips and the implementation of a partnership agreement between Bunyoro kingdom and Makerere University.

BTI signed a memorandum of understanding with Makerere University that will see the institution conduct outreach practical training for farmers and traders in the region before qualifying as certified producers.

The strategic plan was unveiled during the Bunyoro ecumenical service at the residence of the state minister for Bunyoro affairs, Ernest Kiiza, in Kampala on Sunday.

A fund raising drive for the strategic plan that will also see establishment of a secretariat, acquisition of tractors for agricultural mechanization and construction of silos was also launched during the ceremony attended government, Kingdom and religious officials from Bunyoro.

There will be a fund raising dinner for the strategic plan in Kampala on September 20.

The Kingdom and religious leaders resolved to form BTI at the Bunyoro convention during which Omukama Solomoni Iguru repented on behalf of his subjects and dedicated the kingdom to God – the supreme ruler last year.

The bishop of Bunyoro Kitara diocese, Nathan Kyamanywa, who is the BTI board chairman, said the plan also seeks to restore Bunyoro’s status as a premier kingdom and promote holistic societal transformation of the region.
