Archbishop Sentamu in Uganda

The Archbishop of York, Dr. John Sentamu, has advised Ugandans to be faithful and trust in God even when they are struggling economically.

“I know you’re struggling economically as there isn’t enough money. It’s the same in the UK. Jesus who conquered death and evil will help us get through these difficult times,” he told the congregation at St. Andrew’s Seseme Cathedral, Kisoro on the first day of his visit.

Sentamu said he was happy to be back in Muhabura Diocese that was  formerly part of that of Kigezi, where at the age of 17 he was involved in an evangelistic mission with the late Bishop Festo Kivengere”.

Dr. Sentamu, one the candidates tipped to succeed the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, is in the country to attend the centenary celebrations of Muhabura Diocese.

On Saturday, archbishops Sentamu  and Henry Luke Orombi will lay a foundation stone for Mabugo church where the first missionary church was born in 1912.

The host bishop, Cranmer Mugisha, yesterday observed that Ugandans should be thankful for the gift of Archishop John Sentamu who he described as a good ambassador to the United Kingdom.

“We pray he becomes the Archbishop of Canterbury which will make him the head of the Anglican Church in the whole world,” he remarked.
