FORGET about the album launches that take four hours for the main artist to come on stage to perform for an already fatigued crowd.

Tamba’s was a release party that had about 20 fans and in 20 minutes, she had done about four songs. The show at the Court Yard Restaurant in Nakasero started with her guitarist strumming away on the acoustic guitar.

She did her song Kampala; to which some fans she knew by name gave applause. Next was Mamukamwe a song she says is a name of a dream.

And to crown the day, Tamba released her Rukiri radio single that she played along with her guitarist. Just as we thought there was more to the night, it was dusted and done and in as short as half an hour we were going home.

On release parties, critics, producers, programmers, businessmen and whoever matters in the music business are often invited. For Tamba, the release was for family and friends.

That is equivalent to preaching to the church choir. You would be hard pressed not to use the phrase self-praise while talking about Tamba’s release party.
