The declaration of Karamoja as a disturbed area was extended for another six months by the Governor’s states, a notice issued by the internal affairs minister, W. W. K. Nadiope.

A protest against the proposal to exempt Karamoja from district elections for three years was made to the minister of regional administration by Uganda People’s Congress regional organisation secretary for Karamoja, Raiti Ejiye.

Such a move was regarded as a deliberate attempt to deter Karamoja from advancing with other progressive parts of Uganda. He asked the minister to amend that part of the Constitution, so as to enable district elections to take place in Karamoja in three months’ time.
