A Kampala court has sentenced a father and his son to three years of imprisonment for running a brothel.

Hassan Sempijja, 50, and his eldest son, Sam Luyiga, 30, both residents of Kisenyi I Zone, Central division Kampala, were on Tuesday convicted of setting up a brothel in Kisenyi I Zone.

Solome Nampijja, 25, a neighbour to Sempijja’s brothel testified before LDC court that the premises run as a restaurant during day and a brothel at night.

The State prosecutor Clare Mbabazi told court that Sempijja and Luyiga sold off their land to Abdul Karim at sh55m but refused to vacate the land after starting up a prostitution business.

“It is four years since the two sold the land to Abdul but instead of vacating they introduced a brothel business where they have been getting money,” Mbabazi explained.

Sempijja pleaded with the magistrate to be given a fair sentence because of his poor health and advanced age.

“Your worship I am suffering from high blood pressure mixed with other related diseases like cough and headache caused by old age. I request to be given a moderate punishment,” Sempijja pleaded with the magistrate.

In delivering his judgment, the Grade 1 magistrate Samuel Kagoda sentenced the two convicts to three years' imprisonment basing on the evidence tabled before court.

“According to the evidence tabled before court, I sentence the two convicts to three years imprisonment each so that you can rehabilitate and change your criminality ways,” Kagoda ruled.

Prosecution said that in November 23, last year, Sempijja and his son Luyiga set up a brothel in Kisenyi I Zone where they had constructed a temporary make shift after selling the land.

Running a brothel is a criminal case which is contrary to Sec 137 of the Penal Code Act.
