Dissecting the jazz genre of music

Jul 05, 2012

JAZZ is the in-thing. It is so up there on the social ladder that you will be regarded a twerp if you profess your ignorance of the genre.

JAZZ is the in-thing. It is so up there on the social ladder that you will be regarded a twerp if you profess your ignorance of the genre.

So when the organisers of the Nile Gold Jazz Safari 2012 invited the press, sponsors, corporates and “experts” to announce that the concert would take place on October 5 at Serena Hotel, people consulted  ictionaries, encyclopedia and google to find out about jazz.

But they still did not get enough answers. So at Serena on Monday, they kept on testing one anothers knowledge on jazz. Some knew about classical jazz, smooth jazz, dinner jazz, acid jazz, Latin jazz, African jazz and (do not get offended) Western jazz.

Regina Belle, Gerald Albright (Kampala loves this guy!) and Marion Meadows will headline the concert. So there is more research for you who wants to show off with your knowledge about the three musicians.

Those who attended this “launch of the concert” got a compilation CD of the three artists so if you see someone singing along you will know where they were on the night of Monday 25 June.
