Uganda will formalise trade relations with Italy to promote growth of the country’s economy. “We are going start by having Uganda trade delegations to Italy and they will send us people to exchange ideas,” Amelia Kyambadde, the trade and industry minister explained.

She noted that Italy’s economy was once entirely dependant on agriculture, but had grown overtime to become the seventh largest exporter in the world. She encouraged Italians to build industries in Uganda to boost trade in processed goods instead of shipping raw materials from the country to Europe.

Stefano Dejak , the Italian ambassador to Uganda, said Uganda has great potential to grow like Italy did in its first economic boom of the 1960s.
