Uganda's top seeds land St. Lucia squash invite

Uganda’s top two squash seeds Michael Kawooya and Ian Rukunya Kajubu will use the 19th edition of the St. Lucia squash open tournament to rise on the world rankings.

Uganda’s top two squash seeds Michael Kawooya and Ian Rukunya Kajubu will use the 19th edition of the St. Lucia squash open tournament to rise on the world rankings and also improve on their standards.

The duo landed an invite to take part in the prestigious tournament due June 25-30 in Barbados, Caribbean in South America.

"It’s a great opportunity for us to get exposure playing against the World’s best and despite of financial limitations we are working hard to see that we honour the tournament,” Kawooya stated in a phone interview.

Kawooya is Uganda's number one player while Kajubu, is the country's seed two. The invitation was sent to the Uganda Squash Rackets Association by the Saint Lucia Squash Association president Cheryl Renwick.

In 2010 Commonwealth games Kawooya lost   in the second round to Canadian Shawn Dawyer. The duo requires sh14.5 for the trip but only have sh3.3m.

France’s Joycelyn Martin is the defending champion after beating Collin Ramasra of Trinidad Tobago in the finals 3-1 (11-13, 12-10,11-9,11-4).
