Uganda People's congress (UPC) has termed the ongoing debate on term limits as being diversionary, aimed at distracting Ugandans.

In a recent press interview at the party headquarters, the Special Presidential envoy Okello Lucima said that the debate was aimed at diverting Ugandans from the vital issues facing them.

Lucima said that as UPC, they have no problem with the installation of term limits, "but our worry is that at the moment term limits are being used to divert Ugandans from following crucial government programs going on in their country," he said

He added on that instead of debating term limits, it was rather wiser to put there priority on how to do away with the current regime, because Uganda's problem is not term limits but the current regime in power.

"And even if the term limits were installed, it would not guarantee that President Museveni and his people will be out of power," he said

Recently a group of parliamentarians led by western Uganda youth MP Gerald Karuhanga moved a motion seeking for the restoration term limits, which were abolished in 2005.
