It was a walk-in-the park for Kobs as they thumped helpless Jinja-based Nile rugby club 97-0 in the Nile Special Rugby League at Kampala rugby club.

New recruit Ronald Musajja was on top of his form, scoring two tries after tearing apart the Nile defence single-handedly.

The muscular 90kg center handed-off four defenders to score his two tries of the day, which excited the national team coach Yayiro Kasasa.

“This boy is an asset and I think national coaches need to start monitoring him,” Kasasa beamed.

Timothy Kabonero, Ibra Nyango, Timothy Kamanyire and Ronnie Lutakome and Joseph Okot scored a try each while Kevin Makmot managed four conversions to end half time 38-0.

In the second half, Kobs coach Fred Mudoola re-enforced his charges by substituting Adrian Bukenya for Timothy Mudoola and Brian Odong for Bob Bibagamba, a former Pirates prop.

Steven Ogwete, Isaac Lutwama, Paul Barigye, Victor Wadia, Timothy Mudoola, James Ijongati and Oscar Kalyango added a try each while, Joseph Aredo  managed to six conversions to seal the score at 97-0.

“This is a good beginning if we are to achieve our main target of recapturing our title back. Atleast we have gauged the fitness levels of every player and am confident the title is ours,” team captain Brian Odong stated after the game.

In Entebbe at the House of Pain, hosts Mongers were 10-3 victors over Rhinos. Adrian Waswa scored a try conversion and penalty.

At Kyadondo Rugby Club, defending champions Heathens out-matched Xfm-sponsored Makerere Impis with a 59-3 thumping.

Kobs and Heathens have five points each but Kobs lead the table on a try advantage, while Pirates (four points) and Mongers (four points ) are third and fourth respectively.

In the opening game of the season played on Friday, Buffaloes dominated the second half but lacked the ability to execute moves condemning them to a 19-7 defeat at the hands of Pirates at Kyadondo

Buffaloes were trailing 19-0 by half time but regrouped after the interval and troubled Pirates through-out the forty minutes but could only manage a try and a conversion through Philip Wokorach.

Pirates bossed the first half, picking and driving the ball to a below par Buffaloes side and were rewarded with three tries through Denis Etucket, Marvin Odong and Jude Kirya while Anthony Kinene managed two conversions.

“We lacked fitness, coupled with the fact that the majority of our boys are in school, put us on the on the defensive in the second half but it’s something we are going to work on,” Pirates Coach Godwin Kayangwe said after the game.

Buffaloes’ coach Tolbert Onyango attributed the defeat to lack of experience.

“We lost a number of players to Heathens and the boys we have, are not experienced enough to put up a good fight in the super eight league.”

Buffaloes’ Wokorach who was named man of the match despite ending up on the losing side.
