UGANDA continues rebuilding her football structures from the age groups today when the national U-17 team take on their Zambia counterparts in the CAF Youth Championship qualifiers.

The U-17s will be led by Gift Ali , a product of the Kampala Kids League (KKL) European tours. Ali was part of the U-14 KKL team who in 2007 beat another Zambian junior side Chipamanga on their way to lifting the Gothia Cup.
“I do not think that there is a very big change from then,” Ali said yesterday.

“They (like us) are players that have developed through the ranks and we are determined to go all the way. It is good that most of our players have been active in their school teams or in Super Division league”

Ali is confident that the side he leads out will get a good result against the Zambian team that jetted into the country Wednesday evening. The two nations will be clashing in the first leg of the first round match starting 4pm.

Ali turns out locally for West Nile league outfit Arua United and has grown up to be one of the finest stars of his generation.

Paul Nkata is handling the team together with Richard Wasswa. Thye are building on Uganda’s CECAFA U-17 victory last year.

The starting XI:

Martin Elungat, Moses Kizito, Joseph Ocaya, Deus Bukenya, Denis Iguma, Godfrey Kizito, Gift Ali, Mawejje Mawanda, Edward Mubiru, Ivan Ntege and Erukana Nkugwa.
