FIFA referee Brian Nsubuga on Saturday passed the referees’ fitness test just in time for his CAF assignment in Sudan this weekend.

Nsubuga, who got the FIFA referees badge this year, will travel with Fred Mufta, Samuel Kayondo and Yahaya Kiti to Sudan, for the Orange Confederation Cup match between hosts El Amal and Algeria’s CR Belouzdadd.

Nsubuga was among the international referees that failed tests conducted by South African FIFA instructor Carlos Enriques on March 26 and March 29. Under the circumstances those who failed would be scrapped off the international appointments list.

Mufta failed the first but passed the second test. However, during Saturday’s fitness test conducted by CAF instructor Haruna Kebba at Namboole, Nsubuga together with FIFA lady referees Diana Mukasa and Aisha Ssemambo passed. Ssemambo was making a comeback after giving birth four months back.

“At least, one thing we can say is that all the referees who hold FIFA badges are fit,” said referees standing committee boss Abbas Ssendyowa. CAF has been interested in appointing Ssemambo, and had consulted the national federation three times about her fitness.
