THE national U-17 defence kingpin Dennis Guma is doubtful for the Africa Youth Championships preliminary round return leg in Zambia on Saturday.

The defender, who played a crucial role in the 2-0 first leg win in Kampala and team-mate Moses Kizito are nursing injuries that could rule them out of the Lusaka trip.

The team is in residential training at Kisubi and is due to fly out on Wednesday.

Head coach Richard Wasswa confirmed yesterday that Guma and Kizito are doubtful but Savio Kabugo is steadily recovering from a bout of malaria.

Despite the scare, Wasswa remained optimistic the Uganda Hippos will progress to the second round. Uganda can afford a luxury of a 1-0 loss on Saturday and advance but Wasswa insisted that he was going to play an attacking game to ensure a comprehensive result.

In an online poll conducted by Zambianfootball.net, 79 per cent of the respondents in Zambia have also showed a strong conviction for their team to overturn Uganda’s lead and go through.
